This month, we’re learning all about protein and how it helps our bodies grow strong and healthy 💪

Our approach is grounded in research-based early childhood theory. According to constructivist learning theory and social learning theory, children learn best through hands-on experiences, real-life connections, and guided conversations.

By connecting nutrition lessons to daily meals and activities, children actively build understanding, develop healthy habits, and strengthen both their bodies and their minds 🧠✨

I had the incredible honor last week to be awarded the 2025 Community Impact Award in Education, presented by Assemblyman Kwani B. O’Pharrow.

This recognition means so much to me because the work I do is rooted in a genuine passion for helping others and serving my community. Supporting students, families, and neighbors is not just something I do, it’s something I truly love. Being able to give back, advocate, and create opportunities that uplift others is what fuels my purpose every day.

Assemblyman O’Pharrow’s Community Awards recognize individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and heart to making a difference, and I am incredibly grateful to the person who nominated me and to everyone who continues to support this work.

Today our young engineers designed and built a car!

Learning through play is key in early childhood education! Pre-K engineering standards focus on building, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. When designing and building cars, children meet each standard by exploring construction, problem-solving, collaboration, force and motion and creative expression!

Hands-on pre engineering also foster curiosity, fine motor skills, and critical thinking in a playful and engaging way.

Today, I had the incredible honor of being recognized alongside nine amazing women by NYS Assemblyman Mike Durso as part of the Women of Distinction 2024 for Outstanding Achievements and Contributions to our Community. I am truly humbled and filled with gratitude to receive this honor. I love what I do for the families and communities I serve, and it’s a privilege to be able to make a positive impact every day. Dance is essential for childhood development! 💃 It enhances physical skills, boosts cognitive abilities, and supports emotional expression. Integrating dance into education aligns with Jean Piaget’s theory of learning through active exploration, making education holistic and engaging.

@gemaschildcare we have our future hairstylists, entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, salespeople, artists, musicians, athletes, lawyers, leaders, and so much more! Part of developing those talents is dramatic play, a cornerstone of educational pedagogy. According Piaget’s theory, dramatic play is essential for cognitive development as it fosters creativity, problem-solving, and emotional understanding. Through imaginative scenarios, kids practice social skills, explore perspectives, build confidence, and strengthen their social-emotional development. This hands-on approach is a powerful tool for learning and growth!

Today we picked peaches 🍑 from our peach tree 🌳

Picking fruit from a tree can help children learn and develop in many ways, including:
🍑Understanding the world🍑 Children are observing plants, animals, and other natural objects. 
🍑Language and communication 🍑 Children are talking with others about the peach’s colors, shapes, and sizes. While also describing their experiences and observations, which help develop their speech and communication skills.  
🍑Science 🍑 Children are learning to identify plants by their leaves, flowers, bark, and growth patterns. They are also seeing how fruits are grown, which is different from what they see at the supermarket!   🍑Emotional well-being 🍑 Connecting with nature has positive effects on children’s emotional well-being.
